Defining pedestrian crossing
You can define a Pedestrian Crossing on a link for which the Is Pedestrian Crossing attribute is selected and which crosses at least one link. This enables you to create simple traffic-actuated signal controls of the Pedestrian Crossing type without having to program the necessary run control yourself: Moreover, Vissim adds the required network objects. The pedestrian crossing cannot be inserted if it overlaps a connector for which the Reverse parking attribute is selected.
1. Make sure that:
- that the Is Pedestrian Area attribute is selected for the link that pedestrians are to use and that you want to add the pedestrian crossing to.
- this link crosses the link(s) used by vehicles

2. On the vertical Network Editor toolbar, on the very left, click the Add signalized pedestrian crossing button .
3. Point the mouse pointer to the pedestrian link.
A preview in the Network editor shows conflict areas, detectors and red markers where signal heads are located. Markers that are not relevant are first displayed in a darker color. Once you have completed the next step, they are no longer displayed at all.
4. Click the pedestrian link.
Vissim inserts all network objects required for the pedestrian crossing at the position where the links cross:
- Conflict areas: by default with the Status that gives the link for pedestrians right of way to the link for vehicles. This protects pedestrians who cannot cross before the end of the green phase.
- one Detector each:
- downstream of the conflict area on the link for pedestrians
- upstream of the conflict area on the link for pedestrians
- a signal controller of the typePedestrian Crossing with two signal groups of the type Standard and a defined signal sequence (Modeling signal controllers).
- one Signal Head each:
- at the start point of the detector located downstream of the conflict area
- at the end point of the detector located upstream of the conflict area
- on the link for vehicles downstream of the conflict area
