Creating a vehicle journey

You can create either a single vehicle journey or multiple regular services (Create regular services). If you want to insert a single vehicle journey, proceed as follows.

1. Make sure that the desired lines are displayed in the timetable (Selecting lines to be displayed in the timetable).

2. On the timetable toolbar, click the Create vehicle journey(s) button.

Tip: Alternatively, you can call the function via the Timetable (graphical) > Create vehicle journey(s) menu or via the shortcut menu of the vehicle journeys table.

The Create vehicle journey(s) window opens.

3. Select the Basis tab.

4. Make the desired changes.

Element	Description
Number	Display of the vehicle journey number Note Visum automatically allocates the next free number after the highest existing number. You can edit the number. However, each number can only exist once.
Name	Name of the vehicle journey
Line	Line to which the vehicle journey shall be allocated Note If you want to change the allocation of the line via the Edit vehicle journey(s) window, Visum selects the most suitable line route with the corresponding time profile.
Direction	Direction of the line route
Line route	Line route which is displayed in the timetable
Time profile	Time profile which is displayed in the timetable
Operator	Operator of the line Note If you modify the standard operator of a line, the operator will not be adjusted for associated existing vehicle journeys.
Service trip pattern no.	Number of the service trip pattern
Vehicle combination	Vehicle combination of the vehicle journey section
Vehicle combination set	Set of vehicle combinations permitted for vehicle interchange on this vehicle journey section
Valid day	Valid day of the vehicle journey
Operating period	You can select an operating period from the drop-down list. The selection applies to all vehicle journey sections of the vehicle journey(Fundamentals: Valid days). Notes Operating periods are only provided if you use an annual calendar. You can allocate different operating periods to the vehicle journey sections (Editing a vehicle journey section).
AddValue 1-3	Free attributes which you can use to enter additional values.
Start stop point	Stop point of the selected line route, at which the vehicle journey begins. Enter a departure time at the selected start stop point. Notes The name of the start stop point consists of the stop point attributes number and code or number and name if no code is specified. If the line route or the time profile of a vehicle journey is modified, the previous start stop point is kept, if possible.
End stop point	Stop point of the selected line route, at which the vehicle journey ends Notes The arrival time at the end stop point is calculated automatically. The name of the end stop point consists of the stop point attributes number and code or number and name if no code is specified. If the line route or the time profile of a vehicle journey is modified, the previous end stop point is kept, if possible. Note You can edit the Start stop point and the End stop point of a vehicle journey directly in the tabular timetable: Make sure that attribute FromTProfItemIdentifier and ToTProfItemIdentifier are displayed in the tabular timetable. There are several options for editing the value: In the drop-down list, click the desired time profile item. Enter the index number, the code or the name of the time profile item directly into the field and confirm with Enter.
Ref stop point	Stop point of the selected line route, used to fixate the departure time (Setting reference stop points) Note By default, the start stop point is the reference stop point. Enter the departure time at the chosen reference stop point if it deviates from the start stop point. The departure time at the start stop point will then be updated.

5. Confirm with OK.

The vehicle journey is added to the timetable.

Note: If you insert a vehicle journey which lies within a coupled section, a synchronized vehicle journey will be inserted on the coupled time profile, too. Once you confirm a query, the Edit coupled vehicle journey window opens, where you can directly edit the attributes of the new vehicle journey on the coupled time profile.

Note: If you change the allocation of the time profile to a vehicle journey in the Edit vehicle journey window or in the Timetable (tabular) window and a reference stop point within the course is located on the time profile, the program attempts to copy this reference stop point to the target time profile. To do this, one of the following prerequisites must be fulfilled:

no reference stop point is defined in the target time profile, but there is a profile point on this line route item.
if a reference stop point already exists in the target time profile, you can decide which fixing is to be used.

If the reference stop point could be accepted or at least one profile point exists on the line route item, the departure time is adjusted so that the actual departure time or arrival time at the accepted reference stop point remains the same. This procedure is independent of the decision to keep an old fixing.
