Dynamic Potential in relation to the concept of levels and ramps
The calculation of the dynamic potential is limited to the level of the area where the pedestrian route ends. Therefore, the dynamic potential cannot be used to calculate the choice between different available ramps connecting one level to another. Since the choice of a ramp from a set of ramps is a discrete decision, such a choice should be modeled with partial routes (Using dynamic potential or dynamic partial pedestrian routes). In addition, dynamic potentials are computationally intensive and can significantly slow down the simulation. The larger the area covered by the potential, the slower the simulation. Thus, limiting the computation to a level or a ramp is a simple measure to limit the computational load (Defining the Dynamic Potential for a ramp or stairway).
You can also activate the dynamic potential for each pedestrian route location individually (Attributes of pedestrian route locations). Thus, pedestrians follow a dynamic potential when they approach the ramp on the pedestrian route, but not on the ramp itself if the Use Dynamic Potential attribute is disabled for the ramp.
