Lohse (1997) lists the following decisive disadvantages of the incremental assignment procedure.
- The number and size of layers (partial matrices) largely determine the quality of the results. However, there is no procedure to specify optimal layers.
- The calculation ends after the specified number of steps has been executed without checking correspondence between the resulting traffic volume and link impedances.
